We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. She inspired millions, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that she was a beloved public servant. It has been comforting to read stories of people sharing their memories of her warmth, humility and dedication. Above all, Queen Elizabeth was a person of faith and of prayer who lived out her life with a heart of service.
At this most personal of times, our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
"When peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place.”
Queen Elizabeth

Prayers for Ukraine
We joined with other schools within our Trust (PDET) in Guilsborough, Braunston and Barby to reflect on our Christian Values of Hope and Peace and focus on the power of prayer.
Thank you to Jasmine, Eddie and Emilia for creating and sharing their prayers with all of the children and adults from the group of school communities and to everyone who took part in this positive action.

Reading and Nature are two of our favourite things!
The latest booklists from The Reading Agency combine these two themes.
Booklists: Nature and Wildlife
Click on the links to find the booklists for adults and children.
Nature and wildlife have been a respite for many over the past year. Our adult booklist includes a mixture of fiction, memoir, poetry and non-fiction, covering the restorative powers of swimming and gardening, the history of our relationship with sheep, animals that talk and the ones we share our homes with, spanning the lakes of Berlin to the forests of Argentina.
We have also created a booklist for children and young people inspired by the same theme, with a mix of fiction, non-fiction, picture books and poetry. Creatures of every shape and size can be found between these pages, including a kindly badger, a loving penguin, a worried gecko, a determined wolf and many more.

French Club in Autumn Term
A qualified and experienced teacher from Harborough Languages will visit Spratton Primary School every Monday lunchtime in the Autumn term to teach the children French, using songs, rhymes, games, puppets, craft, drama, signing, books and even lego!
Fun French For Kids is designed to nurture positive attitudes to language learning and other cultures, in a happy, relaxed atmosphere. All sessions are taught with enjoyment in mind so the children effortlessly acquire French and have FUN!
There are so many reasons why it’s a good idea to learn additional languages: accelerated progress in literacy, numeracy and creative thinking; future travel and work; cultural and global perspective, to mention just a few. Encouraging children at a young age is the best way to inspire a continued love of languages in to the future.

To parents and carers of children starting school in September 2021
The Strong Start team are a team of Early Years Workers commissioned by Public Health to offer universal support and advice to families with under 5s. In July and August they will be running an adapted School Readiness programme in local green spaces and parks.
These sessions will include a variety of activities aimed at helping children develop the key skills they will need when starting school. The session will also include ideas and information on activities families can do at home to help prepare the child for starting school.
During the sessions families will also be able to talk on a 1:1 basis with qualified Early Years professionals about development and wellbeing topics, ask questions and share any concerns or worries they have about their child or own wellbeing.

Share a Read Campaign
The Reading Agency and Pearson Books , have come up with an initiative to get people talking about the brilliant books they’ve read. There are so many out there and what’s better than getting recommendations from your peers?
They’re asking you to share what you've been reading with them – and if you like, share a review too. Your recommendation will be added to their ‘Share a Read’ reading list for everyone else to discover. So, if you’ve read something educational, inspiring or just very entertaining, they want to know!
And there's more! They'll be giving exciting prizes to their favourite reviews... including book vouchers so you can read even more!

National survey of children, 'The Big Ask'
The new Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has launched The Big Ask – the largest ever consultation with children aged 4 to 17 in England. It aims to find out children’s concerns and aspirations about the future, so that we can put children at the heart of our country’s recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Parents, care leavers and those working with children are also invited to complete the adult survey to share their views about the future for children and young people today,
